We have implemented some type of compensation SVC connected to the 22 kV network:

Description of the available types of compensation:

    High power appliances plugged into industrial networks often negatively affect the quality of electricity. We meet with them bleed with rapid changes of active and reactive power, which cause voltage fluctuations, with the collection of non-sinusoidal current, which causes the bias voltage harmonics, with unbalanced consumption, etc. These include variable speed drives for rolling mills, mining machinery, electric traction, AC and DC electric arc furnaces, spot welders, etc.

    Required power quality parameters are defined not only for the public distribution network - EN 50160 standard ed. 3, EN 61000-2-2, EN 61000-2-12 and rules for the operation of the distribution system, but also for industrial networks - Standard DIN EN 61000-2-4 ed. Second

    Eliminating the negative feedback effects of these appliances to the mains - it is the suppression of voltage fluctuations, harmonic filtering and sampling bias is almost always associated with power factor correction solution, these are the joints with power units and tens Mvar.

    Rotary synchronous compensators that are still in many industrial networks in operation, have large operating losses, high maintenance costs and the dynamics of reactive power control is usually not enough. Therefore, in the current industrial high voltage using two types of compensators:

    • SVC (Static Var Compensation), respectively. TCR + FC (Thyristor Controlled Reactor + Fixed Capacitor).
    • STATCOM (Static Synchronous Compensator), respectively Statcon (Static Synchronous Condenser).

    Compensation SVC type are the source of capacitive reactive power of the capacitor bank, mostly designed as compensation filters, which are permanently connected to the network. Reactive power compensation current control is performed by phase-controlled choke antiparallel thyristor converters. If performance is equal to the power capacity of the inductive part, it is possible to regulate the compensation power from zero up to the performance of installed filters. The response time to change the reactive power in the tens of milliseconds.

    Type STATCOM compensation is not a source of reactive power capacitors and inductors, but driven semiconductor (IGBT) inverter is connected in parallel to compensate for the power supply, which is a voltage source. The amount of stress is controlled by the direction of the flow of reactive power reactor or transformer coupling to the network. The transducer may be similarly synchronous compensator source capacitive or inductive reactive power. The advantage of this is, among other things, a very quick response to changing reactive power consumption. Therefore, this compensation is useful for eliminating voltage fluctuations in load with rapid changes in performance - welders, arc furnaces.
